Addiction recovery helpline aims to provide quick resources to those in need

WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — A new 24/7 helpline is fighting back against the opioid crisis in Wisconsin, by offering quick and easy access to recovery resources.

Since October of this year, Wisconsin alone had over 500 requests for recovery support services. More people died from opioids last year in Wisconsin than in car crashes.

For services, dial 211 or visit https://211wisconsin.communityos.org/addiction-helpline.

“A trained specialist will provide them with referrals to resources within their local area or throughout the state,” said United Way 211 Director MaiGer Moua. “They would then take the next step in contacting the referrals that were provided.”

If you don’t feel comfortable speaking over the phone to seek assistance, you can text the helpline or visit the website above to chat live with a specialist. Assistance is free and confidential.

The website also contains a database of resources with services ranging from detoxification, inpatient outpatient, mental health, and other support.
