Group calls for staff removals at UWSP

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) — Former UW-Stevens Point faculty members are calling for the removal of top UW-Stevens Point administrators, according to a news release sent Wednesday.

The group, which says it wants to “express no confidence in UWSP administration,” is scheduling a news conference for Thursday afternoon.

Leaders of the group say they will release a letter to the Board of Regents of the UW system.

“The action is in response to UWSP’s plan to eliminate academic programs and respond to an $8 million deficit,” the release said.

UWSP Chancellor Bernie Patterson released a statement saying, “We are leading UW-Stevens Point through necessary change in a way that is responsive to student needs and relevant to regional issues. Our proposal creates a new regional university dedicated to our strengths while integrating liberal arts throughout the curriculum.  In the 21stcentury, this is what will help our students succeed and allow our communities to prosper. These have been challenging times, and change can be difficult. We are committed to continue  leading UW-Stevens Point with empathy, integrity and honesty and will continue to be forthright in our dialogue with faculty, staff, students and the community.”
