Wausau (WAOW)- The Salvation Army of Wausau kicks off their Red Kettle Season on Nov. 9
Every year the Salvation Army puts out red kettles by businesses to collect donations for the holiday season.
The local chapter helps provide basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter for those in need.
“This is the time of year where a lot of needs need to be met,” said Lt. Donna Thammavongsa of the Salvation Army. “Many times parents worry about getting gifts for their children or providing a meal and when you think of Christmas you think of family gatherings to come together and meet those needs.”
Last year the Salvation Army raised $157,000.
Thammaovongsa said they hope to surpass that goal this year.
The official Red Kettle kick off will be held next week at Gander Outdoors in Rothschild.
