Portage County Crime Stoppers: House break-in and stolen rifle

TOWN OF GRANT (WAOW) – Portage County investigators are searching for a thief who broke into a rural home and stole a rifle.

The homeowner, along County Highway F in the Town of Grant, reported the burglary July 18.

"The suspects broke a window on the front door to get inside," Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas said. "Then they ripped off a Ruger 10/22 rifle with a scope that the man received when he was just a child. They also took Craftsman air compressor, binoculars and SD cards for a trail cam."

The sheriff says the burglar left behind a tool box filled with tools, a computer monitor, trail camera and ammunition for the rifle.

Investigators say the losses from the stolen items and the damage left behind by the burglars total about $2,000.
